Do you want to write songs?

Have you been strumming a guitar or tinkering around on a piano and waiting for the flow of ideas?

Or perhaps you have some already and want to kick them into shape?

Write That Song is the workshop for you. Participants will explore techniques to write, perform and record their own work. We look at melody, subject matter, chords, mood, feeling, inspiration and much more.

The workshops happen in a creative, supportive, non-judgemental environment where writers and performers of all levels can explore the craft.

Participants will be expected to bring their instrument of choice if possible, (guitar, electronic keyboard etc), although lyricists are most welcome too.

INSTRUCTOR

Cosmo (Sandor Dus) is a singer-songwriter, MC and guitarist. He has released 4 albums of original material and toured around the world, including the UK, Europe, the US and South America.

His albums are entitled: Bedsit Blues (2004), I’m a Suicide Bomber in your Heart (2005), Home Thoughts from Abroad (2006) and Costly Pills and Hash (2007). His song writing style is very eclectic, and takes in elements of folk, punk, pop, hip-hop and bluegrass. The songs have recently been described as “revolutionary,” “beautifully life affirming” and “a smorgsmaboard of musical styles (OutSideLeft.com).

Although now a solo artist, he previously played in bands. The first of these, Flannel, became legendary on the festival scene due to their anarchic live performances and antics, which included running a punk karaoke competition at Glastonbury. They released three EPs and an album, and worked with producers such as Al Scott, (Levellers, Gunshot). His next band, hip-hop combo Pondlife MCs, released a clutch of EPs, working with producer Charlie Francis, (R.E.M).

Cosmo has appeared as a compere and performer at many well-known festivals, including Glastonbury, the Big Chill, the Secret Garden Party, Blue Lagoon, Small World and Sunrise. He’s also made appearances on MTV, National Lottery Live and the Brit Awards. Cosmo has won awards and the Hay festival and the Edinburgh fringe.

He has been running workshops on and off for ten years in a variety of different settings. These include community groups, prisons, festivals as well as schools and colleges. He is a fully qualified teacher.
